How Vedic Astrology Can Help Your Yoga Practice

With
Marga Laube

Saturday June 28, 7 - 8:30 p.m.

Knowing your vedic astrological chart can allow you to bridge
the principles of yoga philosophy learned on the mat, into daily life.

Yoga And Vedic Astrology Come From the Same Place!
The Vedas of India are ancient scriptures on Self-Realization. Besides these purely spiritual scriptures, the ancient sages, or rishis, also passed along practical knowledge that would help the “jiva,” (soul) live well while embodied on this earth. Some of these are: Ayurveda, (medicine); Vastu Shastra (the Feng Shui of the Vedas); and vedic astrology. The employment of any of these mundane sciences, can be an enormously helpful adjunct to asana practice.

Tailor Your Practice To Your Unique Self
All our bodies are made of the same essential materials, and with asana practice we strive to bring these materials into greater and greater alignment, vitality and harmony. So too with our subtle bodies (which of course are not separate from our physical bodies,)  These energies can be thought of as the 7 planets, each a distinct aspect of our psychological makeup. Each of us carries a unique psychological blueprint, just as we each have different bodies. So just as you tailor your asana practice to your own body, you can tailor your sadhana (spiritual practice) to the psychological blueprint indicated in your birthchart.

Understanding the Moon
This introductory workshop will focus on the Moon, the primary indicator of contentment and happiness in a birthchart. We’ll see how simply being attuned to the phases of the Moon can help inform asana practice. We’ll cover upayas, or remedial measures for the Moon that will help each person come into deeper understanding of him or herself.

Marga has studied astrology since 1988. She has apprenticed with jyotishi James Kelleher since 2001, and received certification from the American College of Vedic Astrology in 2005. She spent over 12 years with Gurumayi, where she was exposed to yoga philosophy and Kashmir Shaivism. More recently, she sits with Adyashanti, a teacher of Advaita Vedanta. Her undergraduate work was done in Boston, at Brandeis University and the Berklee College of Music. Marga lives here in Ashland.
